This mosaic is a visual representation of the annual Austin ArtWorks Festival, a two-day event in Austin celebrating visual, performing, and literary artists. Many participants have ties to Austin and the area. The event brings quality, meaningful arts experiences to thousands of Minnesotans, generating income for the participating artists and boosting the local economy.
The 2018 Festival reached an all-time high of 67 exhibiting artists. Artists must submit an application to exhibit. Works are reviewed by judges, and invitations to participate are based on jury recommendations.
Mosaic artist Michael Sweere created this piece during the two days he served as Featured Artist at the Austin ArtWorks Festival. Sweere was born and raised in Owatonna and currently lives in Minneapolis. He was employed in the advertising industry for almost 20 years before launching his own creative business, the Michael Sweere Mosaic Company, in 2005.
