Nestled along the shore of Lake Superior, the Grand Marais Art Colony brings artists, community members, and creative seekers of all levels to together to learn from instructors, create art, and engage in artistic inquiry. The nonprofit organization also brings the quaint streets of this Lake Superior town alive in facilitating the Grand Marais Arts Festival.

The event is known for showcasing high-quality work of more than 70 regional artists, and includes numerous hands-on art-making activities, demonstrations, classes, family friendly activities, and artist-driven community events. The work featured as part of this exhibit is from three Grand Marais artists who work in stoneware clay and fused glass.

Festivals, like the Grand Marais Arts Festival, support local and regional artists, foster community pride, strengthen relationships, and stimulate economic growth. From 2010 – 2018, Minnesota State Arts Board supported 526 festivals and touring initiatives.
