Participating in the arts should not be a luxury or for the privileged few, but available and accessible for all to benefit. Through the support of Legacy funding, organizations like COMPAS bring community members of all backgrounds and abilities together to build confidence and creativity. Professional artists work alongside students, teachers, senior citizens, hospital patients, teens, and community members to spark their imaginations and infuse lives with creativity. COMPAS reaches more than 600 young people each week in offering arts experiences.

For the work featured in this exhibit, COMPAS collaborated with two organizations that serve adults with developmental disabilities, expanding access to quality art creation and opportunities for participants to share their artwork. Through multiple art residencies in a variety of mediums, participants were overjoyed to explore new ways to express their creativity: community poetry, drumming, mosaics, puppetry, painting, and photography.

As a culmination to the project, COMPAS hosted an art showcase at the Minneapolis Institute of Art to a packed house of over 200 enthusiastic artists of all abilities.
