Puppeteer Aronson and collaborators will tour Z Puppets Monkey Mind Pirates performances and workshops to sixteen northern Minnesota sites in summer 2013, integrating puppetry, music, and yoga to give families creative tools for finding calm.
Arts Midwest, Minneapolis $  37,213
Arts Midwest World Fest will present international musicians in rural Midwestern communities by conducting week-long residencies.
Bach Society of Minnesota, Saint Paul $  7,125
The Bach Society of Minnesota will tour baroque and jazz music to Gustavus Adophus College in Saint Peter in order to expand the Bach Society's audience and to support the college's role in the local music community.
Cantus, Minneapolis $  33,948
Cantus will perform its program, A Place for Us, in Bemidji, Glenwood, and Wadena. Open rehearsals in each community will share best practices in working collaboratively.
Central Square, Glenwood $  14,900
Central Square, in Glenwood, will present the world-famous tenor J. Mark McVey and singer/songwriter John Gorka in concert, along with a number of community engagement activities, such as, workshops, performances in area nursing homes and schools, and a "flash mob" music event in downtown Glenwood.
Citizens for Backus / Alexander Baker, Inc., International Falls $  48,900
Backus Community Center will present two diverse performances as part of its 2013-14 season, including music by Chris Koza and Rogue Valley, and The Mill, a play by Jeannine Coulombe.
College of Saint Benedict Fine Arts Programming, Saint Joseph $  18,640
The College of Saint Benedict will present a free outdoor concert series, Sunset Stages at Saint Ben's, featuring five Minnesota artists, to engage the Saint Joseph community in summer arts activities.
The College of Saint Scholastica, Duluth $  18,000
The College of Saint Scholastica will present three performances by Minnesota artists Rhythmic Circus, Connie Evingson, and Ameriikan Poijat. There will be two youth workshops: tap dancing, and jazz styling aimed at high school choirs.
Contemporary Dance Arts, Inc., Minneapolis $  38,560
Shapiro and Smith Dance will stage performances of Burning Air, its acclaimed work about the 1894 Hinckley Fire, to the Hinckley area and Grand Marais. It will provide a host of community activities to deepen engagement with the dance, including a community talk about how the fire affected Pine County, interactive programs for seniors and upper elementary students, and working with a high school creative writing class on turning historical events into art.
The Galactic Cowboy Orchestra, Shakopee $  43,904
Elisa Wright and The Galactic Cowboy Orchestra will share original music and provide educational outreach (Intergalactic Music Challenge) or senior home outreach (Remembering Through Music) with seven greater Minnesota communities.
History Theatre, Saint Paul $  75,700
History Theatre will tour its acclaimed musical theater production of Beyond the Rainbow: Garland at Carnegie Hall to three Minnesota communities. Each performance will be accompanied by programs to deepen the experience for audiences.
Illusion Theater, Minneapolis $  95,030
Illusion Theater will tour Jeffrey Hatcher's Hamlet, a one-man show that harks back to Hatcher's first theater experience: adapting and not starring in his fifth-grade production of Hamlet. Illusion Theater will bring performances and workshops to eleven communities.
James Sewell Ballet, Minneapolis $  90,478
James Sewell Ballet will tour Lover and Your Move to eight Minnesota venues, featuring dance, live music, and audience participation in movement creativity.
Jelloslave, Golden Valley $  50,840
Jelloslave, which includes two cellos, tablas, and drums, will present a multi-genre, cross-cultural performance, celebrating the cello's ability to touch and inspire the human spirit throughout musical history and across cultural boundaries. Performances will take place in Orr, Ely,Tofte, Duluth, Grand Marais, Grand Rapids, Glenwood, Fergus Falls, Luverne, Lanesboro, and Zumbrota.
Katha Dance Theatre, Crystal $  30,700
Katha Dance Theatre will present performances in Grand Rapids and Glenwood, and will collaborate with both communities to conduct outreach activities on the arts and culture of India.
Milkweed Editions, Minneapolis $  12,500
Milkweed Editions will conduct an author tour comprising 10-15 events, featuring botanist Robin Wall Kimmerer (fall 2013) and poet Sean Hill (April 2014).
Minneapolis Guitar Quartet, Minneapolis $  34,444
The Minneapolis Guitar Quartet, partnering with Colette Illarde (flamenco dance) and Gao Hong (Chinese pipa/composer) will conduct tours to six different towns in greater Minnesota, performing six formal concerts and twelve outreach activities.
Minnesota Guitar Society, Minneapolis $  31,500
Minnesota Guitar Society will present twelve concerts, plus workshops, master classes, and in-school visits by guitarists (and an oud player) from the United States and abroad. Activities will take place in several Minnesota cities.
Minnesota Opera, Minneapolis $  83,973
Minnesota Opera, in collaboration with Shattuck-Saint Mary's, will stage a performance of Puccini's La Boheme on June 14, 2013, provided for free to the public in Faribault and surrounding areas.
Minnesota Orchestra, Minneapolis $  100,000
The Minnesota Orchestra will work with Detroit Lakes community members to provide a week of Common Chords by the Minnesota Orchestra events in September 2013.
Minnesota State University-Mankato, Mankato $  81,011
The Good Thunder Reading Series brings vital voices in contemporary literature to south central Minnesota. The series will feature seventeen writers during its 2013-2014 season, and includes residencies, public readings, and other activities.
Minnesota State University-Moorhead, Moorhead $  30,000
Minnesota State University Moorhead's Cheryl Nelson Lossett Performing Arts Series includes a performance by pianist Christopher O'Riley with cellist Matt Haimovitz; Aquila Theatre's production of Twelfth Night; folk singer Suzanne Vega; and James Sewell Ballet's The Divine Comedy. Educational activities also are planned.
Monroe Crossing, Brooklyn Center $  55,000
Monroe Crossing will collaborate with eleven presenting partners in greater Minnesota to produce bluegrass concerts and supportive educational/community outreach programs about bluegrass music.
Northern Lights Music Festival, Gilbert $  34,925
The Northern Lights Music Festival will tour its fully staged production of Puccini's La Boheme to Chisholm and Ely. The Northern Lights Music Festival Chamber Players will present programs in Duluth, Virginia, Chisholm, and Ely.
One Voice Mixed Chorus, Saint Paul $  63,522
One Voice Mixed Chorus will travel to Duluth, Big Fork, and Little Falls to perform the music of Minnesota composers. The concert will be presented in partnership with nonprofit community groups and will engage local audiences as performers. Twin Cities Public Television will produce a documentary.
Pages of Music with Rolf and Carrie, Apple Valley $  18,598
OboeBass, the Vecchione/Erdahl duo, will collaborate with six presenters in a 24-program tour of recitals and Pages of Music with Rolf and Carrie educational programs, touring seventeen communities across Minnesota.
Ragamala Dance, Minneapolis $  38,800
Ragamala Dance will present performances of Sacred Earth and conduct related community outreach activities in partnership with Shattuck-Saint Mary's in Faribault, Paramount Theater in Austin, Rochester Community and Technical College, and the University of Minnesota, Duluth.
The Rose Ensemble, Saint Paul $  91,220
The Rose Ensemble will conduct a ten city tour of And Glory Shone Around (early American ballads, hymns, and dances), with concerts, preconcert educational programs, and programs for schools or senior citizen centers.
Anne E. Sawyer-Aitch, Minneapolis $  12,750
Sawyer-Aitch will tour her puppet show, Nalah and the Pink Tiger, and provide a workshop to ten greater Minnesota towns, partnering with arts organizations and family social service agencies to provide further access to audiences.
Luverne G. Seifert, Saint Anthony $  67,369
Seifert will present a site-specific adaptation of The Visit, featuring professional and local actors and musicians, at historic villages in three greater Minnesota communities in summer 2013.
The Singers-Minnesota Choral Artists, Minneapolis $  48,980
The Singers-Minnesota Choral Artists will work with community partners in Moorhead, Glenwood, Winona, and Rochester to present concerts, master classes, and shared rehearsals. This expanded tour will take place over two weekends in early 2014.
Ten Thousand Things, Minneapolis $  24,371
Ten Thousand Things will tour A Midsummer Night's Dream and The Music Man to Brainerd, Pine River, and Worthington.
TU Dance, Saint Paul $  44,020
TU Dance will tour to Dawson, Detroit Lakes, and Red Wing to present public performances of a new modern dance series and to partner with communities to conduct classes and engage local audiences.
Zorongo Flamenco Dance and Theatre, Minneapolis $  44,410
Zorongo Flamenco Dance and Theatre will visit seven Minnesota communities with a program of traditional flamenco and new work based on the poems of Gabriela Mistral and the music of Gonzalo Grau.
