American Recovery and Reinvestment Act /
Minnesota Arts Jobs Grant Program

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (Public Law 111-5) recognizes that the nonprofit arts industry is an important sector of the United States economy.  Working in partnership, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Minnesota State Arts Board, and Arts Midwest are uniquely positioned to provide funds to help preserve jobs in Minnesota’s nonprofit arts sector that are threatened by declines in philanthropic and other support during the current economic downturn.

ARRA/Minnesota Arts Jobs grant funds must be used to preserve jobs in the arts in Minnesota. Specifically, funds can be requested for

  • Salary support for one or more positions that are critical to an organization’s artistic mission and that are in jeopardy or have been eliminated as a result of the current economic climate.
  • and/or

  • Fees for previously engaged artists and/or contractual personnel to maintain or expand the period during which such persons would be engaged

Who can apply: Arts organizations must meet a number of criteria to be eligible for an ARRA/Minnesota Arts Jobs grant.  The criteria are listed on pages 3-5 of the Application Instructions available below.

Grant amounts: Grants will range from $10,000 to $25,000. An applicant may request any amount within that range.  One-time grants will be awarded on a competitive basis to preserve jobs in the arts. No match is required.

Application deadline: Applications were due Monday, July 13, 2009.

If you have questions: Contact the Arts Board by e-mail or by phone at (651) 215-1600 / (800) 866-2787.
